Dion Coakley, Pharm.D., joined Hyperion Therapeutics in November 2009. He most recently served as Vice President of Clinical Research at Virobay Inc. where he was responsible for the clinical activities associated with VBY-376, Virobay’s lead protease inhibitor for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C. He has over 20 years experience in drug development, including Director of Clinical Research at Gilead Sciences. While at Gilead he led the clinical team responsible for the development and approval of anti-HIV drug, Viread® (tenofovir DF) and managed clinical trials of adefovir dipivoxil and GS 7340. Previously, Dion served as a Clinical Research Scientist at Burroughs Wellcome, contributing to the development of the antiherpes drug, Valtrex® (valacyclovir) and evaluating compounds for the treatment of cytomegalovirus. He received his B.S. in Pharmacy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Washington at Seattle. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Drug Development and Clinical Research at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
